The Clock House – Design And Build

BALI Special Award Winner 2015
Category: Design And Build

theclockhousespecialawardOverview The Clock House scheme was designed to create a path to the newly-positioned front door of the recently refurbished Clock House. The design was to remain sympathetic with the original purpose of the building as stables and in keeping with the planting and style of the existing garden. Due to the quality and abundance of existing on-site material, it was decided that these would be recycled where possible to reduce costs and also to better reflect the original nature of the building and location. Recycling materials vastly reduced the waste management and contributed hugely to the low environmental impact of the project as a whole. A huge amount of effort and thought was put into this scheme to ensure the design was mindful of all the sight lines and windows from within this stunning property and surroundings. The quality of work inherent throughout the entire project was crucial to give the finish a timeless and permanent appearance.

Judges’ comments The contractor has designed and implemented an intriguing and beguiling solution to the problem of how to lead visitors through the garden to the main entrance door of this beautiful home. The key feature of the design – a raised decking boardwalk – addresses the access issues and overcomes the changes in levels present in the garden. The contractor utilised recycled materials and existing garden artefacts to great effect. The garden design is bold for the style of property but the clients’ brief has been fulfilled 100%.
